Is it possible to collect all the shavings when working on a lathe? So far, I’ve not been able to, nor have I seen any evidence that others have. Controlling shavings and dust on the lathe has taken many unique turns; from shower curtains to shields. I am not sure there is a perfect solution but I can’t stop looking for something better.
Ultimately to me the goal is the convenience, the luxury of not having to clean up. Before that there is a factor of safety and convenience during the work itself, keeping the dust and shavings from your face.
One idea I have been playing with lately is the addition of positive airflow in addition to the vacuum system. For some pieces it has worked well especially when working on small detail work.
